Education Facilities in Urban Areas: Planning Standards and Practices from National and Global Perspectives

Abstract

Proper planning for education facilities in urban areas is very important for ensuring 
proper education and wellbeing of people. Hence designing proper planning standards 
for various types of education facilities are important for education facility planning of a 
city. Education services can be of various types, likely pre-primary school, primary school, 
secondary school, college etc. Hence development of proper planning standards for 
various types of education facilities always poses challenges for planners, practitioners 
and policy makers. Therefore proper understanding of education facility standards 
followed in various cities and countries around the world is quite important for 
development of planning standards for education facilities in Bangladesh. This paper 
primarily focuses on education facility standards followed in various cities and countries 
in the world as well as it examines education facility standards adopted in various plans 
and projects in Bangladesh. Based on the findings of this study, this paper also 
recommends education facility standards for urban areas in the planning contexts of 
Bangladesh.
