Abstract

Having safe, and adequate housing is a fundamental right of the citizens of Bangladesh.
Affordable housing means the availability of housing units that are affordable by that
portion of society whose income is below the median household income. However, the
current neoliberal market economy, scarcity of land, and income of the people in Dhaka
City make it difficult to have access to livable and affordable housing for the lower and
middle-income groups. Hence it is critical for the government authority to have a clear
understanding of the existing situation of housing in the context of affordability of the
middle and lower-income groups. This study represents the current scenario of the
housing affordability of the middle-income group of people in the Dhaka context based
on secondary sources that will further help the authority in taking steps to ensure
affordable housing for this group of people.
