Abstract

Context-specific ‘Parda’ becomes the stories of various categories of asexualsexual, decent-indecent, and good-evil in the experience of women. In terms of Parda, women maintain the boundaries of ‘self’ and ‘other’. In the process of determination,
women keep categorizing their own and others’ behaviors, movements, and ways of dressing into different forms in different ways. Women struggle in various ways to protect the individual and collective veiling. This struggle is sometimes against the collective (society), sometimes with the collective (society), sometimes within the family, and/or sometimes outside the family. In this struggle, women compromise with the various conditions of specific practice of veil (Parda) in response to the social demand and therefore gradually become the women of Shariah Khas-parda. Or sometimes, the women of Khasparda discover themselves unveiled (Bepardah) while rejecting the various conditions as demands of contemporary time. Islamic ideology, or the modern secular state, rejects the diversity of women's veiling by establishing the veil (Parda) as a dual pair. Othering always
exists in different spheres within interlinked self-traditions. But the foundation of othering continuously changes in the difference of spheres. The uniqueness of the spheres gives a new look to the dominant perception of the veil (Parda). Contemporary reality is present in this reconstruction.
